What makes this training kit special is Bill Judge a nationally recognized expert on Drug-Free workplaces. Bill motivates supervisors to perform reasonable suspicion determinations to protect themselves, co-workers, and the public.

For every supervisor Reasonable Suspicion is the most difficult part of a substance abuse program. In response to this resistance Bill Judge explains why reasonable suspicion is a critical part of keeping a workplace safe for both employees and the public. Using compelling current statistics he demonstrates the danger of drug abuse and alcohol misuse in the workplace.

Using an easy to understand metaphor of a football field he explains all a supervisor needs to do make a reasonable suspicion determination is get out of the end zone. He challenges common supervisor reasons for not doing reasonable suspicion such as "He is my friend", 'I don't want to get involved', or "Let someone else do it."

Using real stories Bill motivates supervisors to think about the consequences to co-workers and families when supervisors choose to take no action when a situation calls for it.

Many workers and supervisors feel that what someone does on their own time is their own business. Brain scans of recreational drug users graphically show the damage done by dug and alcohol abuse.

Using actual situations Bill demonstrates to the supervisor that the reasonable suspicion process is something they are already doing when they are determining if someone is fit to perform their job.

After segments on how to do constructive confrontation, and how to successfully meet employee objections the supervisor has an opportunity to practice what they have learned with five 'What would you do?' video scenarios.

As a result of this training program when used with your policy supervisors and managers will be able to:

  • Describe their role and responsibilities as a supervisor implementing your substance abuse policy.
  • Explain how not enforcing a substance abuse policy jeopardizes the fellow employees as well as the public.
  • Recognize the effects, signs, and symptoms of alcohol use and drug abuse, on an individual's health, work, and personal life.
  • Describe specific alcohol, illegal substance, and prescription use that is prohibited.
  • List the occasions that alcohol and drug testing can be done.
  • Define what constitutes a refusal to test, supervisor action, and consequences
  • Know how to effectively respond to employee challenges to testing
  • Know where to direct an employee for assistance
  • Apply what they learn using Five Practice Video Scenarios to show how, when, and why to confront employees using the four steps of constructive confrontation.
